I HATE the allegiance subverter!!!!
Enough said! Jeeez, that thing gets on my nerves. What tech tree is it in? Psychology?

The small rocket pods are the equivalent in SEIV. Perhaps you wanted FM3s? |

The most annoying part of the A.S. is likely the impossibility of defense against it.
Try changing the damage type of the A.S. to "only security stations". Then, give the crew quarters, boarding parties, and bridge one point of boarding defense ability. The Allegiance subverter can then be renamed to "Mental Shredder" or somesuch. When hit by this mental shredder, shields WILL protect you. Once defenses are down, all living creatures on your ship will be killed, leaving your ship open to boarding, but not pre-captured. |

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought a Master Computer was defense against AS's???

Dan<hr></blockquote> Better to have a disabled ship than a converted one! Alternative: Keep in mine that the effectiveness/success chance of Subverters decreases with range. Do not let them get to point blank range. Get them to waste their shot at long range. Remember, they only get to try once. I would recommend lots of small, hard to hit ships with as long of a direct fire weapon as possible or missles. Converters do not work on units. Use Fighters/Carrier attack on them. You could also try rushing at them madly with Tachyon Projection Cannons and hope to take out the Subverters with your first volley. Ionic Dispersers could also be useful to keep them out of range by zapping their engines. These have a range of 6 at the upper levels which exceeds Subverters. Finally, try using Repulser beams to push them away. FYI: Repulser beams push objects more squares using larger mounts. If you can use a Huge Mount (Battleship) you can push them quite far (something like 12 squares). Repulsers are the bane of short range weapons. Watch out for the fighter based weapons that Psychics own. It does something like 25 damage every turn!. |

Be sure to use a modfolder, and keep your original data files safe! ============================= - Master computers won't slow down a human player, though they might give you some time vs AIs. - Keeping your distance is a fragile strategy. You need to stay at least AS_range + Enemy_speed away from your opponent, which means missiles. Most races load up on PD already. - The Tachyon and Ion strategies would only work for ambushing a small force. - Repulsor beams require you to have equal or larger ships than the enemy. This makes the Subverters more dangerous. - Gobs of fighters and Carriers are good, but you will soon find you are up against thicker PD cannons along with the subverters... Your best bet is probably the swarms of tiny ships with WMG. At least until your opponent switches strategies again... |
