To Breadfan, re: Ur Quan / Star Control Shipsets

Dear Breadfan,

and anyone who liked (or still likes?) "Star Control"

I really liked the look of your Ur Quan design and a sudden nostalgic thought about the old Star Control games popped into my mind..

Frankly, I would like to see more of Star Control inspired shipsets, please please please?...

Just imagine the Shofixti, having about 8 self destruct devices on board and a single anti proton beam ...*g* or the Yehat Terminator with massive shielding and a double gatling gun ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Anyway, I'd love to see above and the Androsynth, Chenjesu, Ilwrath, Mmrnhrmm, Spathi, Syreen, Umgah, VUX…

Since I am neither an artist nor a modder my only hope is that you or anyone feels encouraged to consider the idea to revive the Star Control races in SE IV gold. The only "help" I can offer is a hearty 'Thank You!' in advance … and, well, some "knowledge" about Star Control specific races ir required

I think the shofixti weapon would be better modelled as a meson bLaster.
And maybe fill up the escorts with Cobalt Warheads plus one self-destruct for more punch.

The speech files for these races could be spectacular. There's more humor in the Star Control series than any other scifi game I can think of. Too bad the AI isn't complex enough to model neurotic races like the Spathi properly. A Spathi shipset would still be lots of fun for a human player.

I think the Ur-Quan 'seeking mines' could be simulated pretty effectively with a seeker system that fires small seekers every turn and they are fast enough to reach the end of their range that same turn. Probably shouldn't have more than the range of an average beam weapon, though, if you want any play balance. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
