Please help me (Atrocities and others...)
 

Hi everybody, I`m a newbie and need help with Star Trek mod. I downloaded all Star Trek Races (all v.1.71 Gold) and extracted them to \picture\races\..., *.emp files placed to \Empires\..., design name files to \dsgnnames\... and than start new game and added all ST Races. Everything looks O.K., but than I discovered that for two races (Ferengis and Cardassians) pictures are wrong and shows ships and race portraits for any predefined race (for example Abbidon,Amonkrie,Sallega ...).
I don`t understand why, because proper AI-files are loaded (when I look at race info window in game, its show proper General History,Society descripions ...etc.) only pictures are wrong.
Ferengis are in \Pictures\Races\Ferengi folder, Cardassian in Pictures\Races\Cardassian folder, names of each ship pictures are correct, pictures has proper sizes ...
Please, explain me, why game don`t recognise these pictures ... Is problem in *.emp files ???

If you are using the "Add existing race" button, you can change the shipset. Randomly generated races will choose the shipset that exists in the folder with the AI files.

There is absolutely no reason why you cannot load an EMP, and then edit the settings in it, including the shipset used.

If the shipset for a particular race cannot be found, then SE4 will load a random shipset for that race each time you load SE4.
The likely cause is a minor typo in the images or the folder name.
The text before the first underscore in each shipset image must be exactly the same as the folder name.
I'm not sure if it is case sensitive, but it can't hurt to check the case.

Perhaps there are a few bitmaps missing?

Try making a copy of one of the races that do work. Then copy in all the ferengi bitmaps. Sort them by name, and see if any don't have a partner.

If a few bitmaps were missing, then the game would load the generic pictures for those missing ships, instead of loading an entirely different ship set.

There's a quicker way to compare them than copying the files; just open the Ferengi folder and another shipset folder in two different windows.

I really don`t understand why AI text files are loaded and pictures not. Has any files (*.emp ???)contain any linking to pictures???

Do this, re-install the ferengi and cardassian.

IN ALL of the Star Trek races, delete the following AI file

RaceName_AI_Fleet

Then try to set up a game. Your problem has only occured once before, and that was because the AI_Fleet Txt file included with Version 1.70 was bad. If this occures again, post your save game file, and I'll look at it.

There should be no reason that the Cardassian are using the Ferengi files. Or vis versa. The files are fine, and I have downloaded them and installed them, and set up a game. The game worked fine for me with no swapping of files.

Try what I recommended and let me know how that worked.

Don't know if this will help but.....

I once got a similar problem. I loaded the .emp files once I started a game and any old shipset would show up, not the one specified in the .emp file. This was the problem, I was using the TDM-Modpack, but all the races I had installed were in the basic se4 pictures/races folder not the TDM-Modpack pictures/races folder so the Path.txt pointed toward the TDM files for it to look and se4 could not find the pictures because they did not exist.

Make sure your Path.txt points towards where the .emp file is looking if you are using some kind of modd.(ie if using TDM-Modpack then the path must state 'TDM-Modpack' instead of 'None' in the Path.txt, just open with notepad and edit manually)
