Analyze
What happens when you analyze an enemy ship you have captured? I assumed I might get some new tech but nothing seemed to happen?

Re: Analyze
You will get something if the tech is new to you.
There may be a enabling condition that has to be met before you can build with it. ex: Armor needs chemistry. Some weapons can only be built if you have the needed Racial trait. Also, before you OK the Analyze, check if the research potential is NONE. ----------------------------------------------- UPGRADES HAPPEN |
Re: Analyze
Also remember that if the tech level is
sufficently higher than yours you may not get to that level with only one analyze. for example: if you have shield II and you analyze a shield V you would only go up one level. (To shield III) Thus you would have to analyze 3 ships to get to shield V. |

However, you can get tech levels in areas you haven't researched the prerequisites for; but you won't be able to advance research in that area on your own until you research the prerequisite. I got phased weapons that way in a pre-Gold game. After capturing 3 enemy ships & analyzing each one separately, I gained 3 levels of phased weapons, even though I hadn't researched Physics 2 (?) yet. But phased weapons didn't show up as a choice in my research queue until I finished Physics 2. I think one of the modders used this quirk & changed racial techs so that certain racial-tech components could be captured and used by other races, even though they couldn't research the tech themselves. |
Re: Analyze
To be able to analyze racial techs you have to go into th tech area file. Once there you must change the 'racial area' (or somesuch) value to zero. Once that is done you should receive a level of that tech area by analyzing a component produced by said tech area as normal.
