AI Modding ?

im maybe a bit stupid asking so much questions in here but i really wanna get these modding stuff up and running cuz modding seems more fun to me than playing it *giggles*

How can i teach the AI to resarch new techs added ?

new engine and armor types ?

and how can i teach them to resarch new ship hulls ( e.g Ship sizes ) and use them as god as they can ?

I can't help you, but I'm sure someone will. Give it a few hours for the north americans to wake up...

Re: AI Modding ?

Each AI has a "Research" file that governs whether it researches a particular tech area, how many research points it will devote to that tech area, and what level it will research to before moving on to another set of technologies. Note that many tech areas appear more than once in the list, but with a different level each time. This lets the AI research (for instance) a level or two of ship construction, then research better weapons, then research more ship construction, then research even more weapons, etc.

As for using new techs, that's governed by the "DesignCreation" file for ship designs, and the "Construction_Facilities" file for facilities on planets. One of the more experienced modders will have to explain the details of those files. There used to be a "Modder's Guide" someplace; it might have been included on the SEIV Gold CD, and I think I saw some information in the Gold edition manual as well...

Re: AI Modding ?

I've found that AIs will research any techs that are left if 1)there is no research file, or 2)they have completed all research in the file. I discovered this when I added two racial tech areas in my mod and hadn't gotten around to creating the research file yet. I guess this could be a shortcut way to mod, although you wouldn't control the research order.
