Proportions : Can\'t get "Massive Shield Depleter" comp
In a Proportions game, I've found Massive Shield Depleter tech in a Ruin.
It *should* allow me to get Massive Shield Depleter comp, which is a shield killing weapon (so no need for PPB ! cool http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )... But but but the comp doesn't appear in the design screens ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif It's not even in the weapon "overview" screen (accessible from Design panel). I've checked TechArea.txt and components.txt file, all seem OK there... So what's on ?? Is this a bug ?? Did I miss stg ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif |

Hmm, just taking a look through the components.txt file under massive shield depleter i noticed this
From normal SEIV data files... Tech Area Req 1 := Massive Shield Depleting Weapons Tech Level Req 1 := 1 From proportions data files... Tech Area Req 1 := Massive Shield Depleting Weapons Tech Level Req 1 := 2 If the ruins only gave u massive shield depleting weapons level 1 then u cant build the component because you dont have a high enough tech level in that area to build it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I think thats what the problem is here... i could be wrong though. A word to the wise on Massive Shield Depleter, it has a reload rate of 30, thereby allowing only 1 shot in combat. If you research shield damaging weapons, you can end up with a shield depleter that does just under 1/2 damage as massive, but fires every turn.

The bad news is I forgot to increase the tech area to go up to level 2. You're supposed to have to actually research what you've discovered to be able to use it in Proportions, but I made it impossible by mistake.
The good news is I've fixed and tweaked this in Proportions 2.2, due out tomorrow or Monday. PvK |

Note the fix to this is simple - go to TechArea.txt in Proportions/Data, and change
Maximum Level := 1 to Maximum Level := 2 for all the Massive techs. PvK |

I tried to put the comp req level back to 1 in components.txt but this changed nothing, don't understand why http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif .. Putting max level to 2 in TechArea has for effect of opening the tech for research, I hope the comp will appear, but cost is steep ... I'm on turn 21 of my game Gandalph, even don't yet have Shield 1, so this hi tech stuff was awfully powerful, it'll take 150 turns at least before I have Shield Damage 8+ ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |

Did you reload the game after changing the component requirement? Does the game show you have TL 1 in Massive Shield Depleting Weapons? And/or, are you sure you changed file you are playing from? Those are the only things I can think of that would keep it from working, since if you set it back to 1, the requirements should be just like the original Version.
The Massive Shield Depleter is fun but isn't particularly effective compared to Shield Dep V (saves a bunch of rads), but it does save a lot of research points, which is a bigger deal in Proportions than in the standard game, because you can't just stuff some planets full of research facilities and therefore quadruple your research rate. Although it now costs research points, rather than just magically being able to build them after finding ruins. I think I might add some higher levels in case someone wants to develop a more efficient Version of the massive depleter. I may also add some levels to the other ancient stuff, and if I get time I may sneak in a couple more ancient techs to find. I always was a little disappointed that the found techs required no research and then couldn't be developed any further. Of course, since they have to be found, they shouldn't be unbalancing since other players won't be able to get them unless they can steal them from the finding player. Mainly the idea is to offer something different rather than something entirely better than can be had through the common tree. PvK |

I changed the Proportions Comp file and reloaded, the game indicated that I "have" Mass SD under Tech but still no component showed up ! Then I put the old Version back and increased max rech as you told, now I can do the research but don't know if it 'll eventually work... Anyway I like your idea of having to make some research rather than finding the recipe for free ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif As I said I agree the weapon is not overly good but should help in early game - even with 1 shot/battle 1000 damage should down any shield ! I take advantage of this post to express my kudos for this just WONDERFUL mod, all that I've found so-so in the standard game is just finely modded with Proportion, and I find new fine twaeks every turn (about components, QNP, mounts, cities...) PvK Great mod I have found a bug I found ruins with the massive engine killer and it would not show also.
