Re: Newbie, Bases & weapon Platforms

The weapon platforms have to be in the planet's cargo. If you are using a spacestation to build the units you may have to transfer them to the planet once they are built.
The planet is then given the weapons. (Select the planet and fire weapons just like a ship)

The bases are essentially really big ships that don't move, and cost 1/2 price to maintain.

In all of these cases you must actually construct them (not just design) before they can be used.

Newbie, Bases & weapon Platforms

How do you guard a planet without building ships? I built bases and weapon platforms armed with missles but neither were avilable when the bad guys attacked my planet.

I need to continue this with a further question.

I built weapons platforms in the Planetary shipyard. They are sitting in the cargo area of the planet and I do not have use of them when enemy ships start bombarding the planet.

They have not been destroyed either.

I can't figure out how to use them.

Help.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Another way to defend your planet without building ships/weapon platforms/bases is to use mines. These are very effective in defending planets. I suggest build a few mines on your planet then start the base as a good base design could take up to 1 year to build without e-build. That's one way to do it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You must have done something wrong in the design. If they are in the cargo area then any weapons they have would be available for the planet in combat just as weapons would be available for a ship. You would only have to click on it. What sort of weapons are on your WPs?

Also, what kind of weapon is the enemy using. If you build small platforms with direct fire weapons and he is using missiles, then he can sit outside of your weapons range and bombard you with missiles.

Mine your warp points, and add satellites.

To protect your planet, mines, sates, weaponPF, and troops. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Pray the bad guys don't come knocking before your well defended. Oh ya, defensive base work too, but take a while to build and eat up resources. Stick to the wp, mines, and satellites. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Do you think satellites deployed from a planet work that well? The Last time I used them, it seemed like the sateliites were always on the wrong side of the planet from where their fleet attacked.

Regarding troops, I still think the AI uses them so rarely that I wouldn't plan on using them for defense when playing a single player game.

I'm curious why you didn't mention fighters. I think fighters are much, much more effective than either satellites or troops.
