Unstable Stars

I just realized that one of my home system stars is an unstable star nearing the end of its cycle. Damn, need to start paying better attention. Anyhow, I have my game set to medium events, catastrophic, do I need to start considering moving my pop. to another star, or is there a stellar manipulation funtion that I may develope to alter my stars fate. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Has anyone ever had an unstable star go nova; what are the odds? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Is that just the descriptive text on the star? If it is I wouldn't worry about it. If it's actually going to explode you will get a warning something like 30 moves (?) before it happens. Time to send in the transports then.

Chill, it's just a description. As far as I can tell, that particular ability is non-functional. In any case, it's set to 0 in the standard game anyway (0 = 0% chance)

There is only one sure way I know to "fix" an
unstable star...Change it to a ring world or sphere world! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: Unstable Stars

I've been working on a Ruins Tech for the B5 Mod that will 'stabilize' a star. Basically it is building a spher/ring world, but it is cheaper and has almost no space on it. I've attached a zip with the 'test' bits (you would have to add each piece to the relevant file in your mod/game). The only problem I am having is that when it builds the 'Balancer' it does not mask the BMP of the planet, so the star appears to disapear in the game. Anyone have any solutions?

I tried this a while back myself Val and ran into the same problem. It doesn't superimpose the bitmap of the planet over top of the star, it actually replaces it. About all you can do is have the "Balancer" call an image of a star. Every time you make one it will be the same pic. I guess you can write that off as the star size and color is somehow affected by stabalizing the core. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

EDIT: Unless you want to make seperate created planets for each color star, each calling a separate image. But there would be no way to make the player pick the right one.

Re: Unstable Stars

Actually, SJ suggested the same thing, but suggested adding a description like : "The stabilizers moderate the fusion reactions in the star, and locking its energy output to that of an average G-type star" . This would then point to the bmp of a Yellow Star with an energy grid around it. I'll have to work on a pic when I get time.
