Planet Subjugation and Protectorates

Anyone out there have any good techniques to get that puny, on the Last whim, and annoying race to be subjugated. What does it take to get them to be your loyal servants and puppets. I usually just end up having them surrender to me, which is all right, but I want a little more depth. Thanks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I think but I am not sure you have to have about a million more victory point than they do . Also It really helps to have a fleet garrisoned there.

If memory serves, it is all about score. If you have six times the points, you can set up a protectorate and eight times the points, you can have a subjugation. Ten times the points gets you surrender. I have not played with it much, but it seems a fairly straight calculation. A decent move is to hit their fleets hard right before you ask, as the number of ships is heavily reflected in their score. They lose the ships, they drop below the points threshold and they are yours.

I also think this is why a lot of people do not like playing PBW with neutrals. They are too easy to pick up in mid game and usually give a 9% boost to the empire that makes them surrender. As it is probably the player in the number one spot, it just opens up their lead for no real work.

I never succeded to make an AI empire accept a subjugation or protectorate treaty! In one occasion the Ai refused the protectorate but accepted one turn later to surrender!!!
Has anyone seen the AI accept these treaties?? And if yes, how did you make it?

I have had the same problem! I can never get the AI to accept Subjugation or Protectorate no matter what I offer them. But like you a turn or two later I will demand their surrender and they just give me everyting.

Ah now I see, this is a proportions game. I suppose the one planet "produces" enough score that the AI will not surrender. Blockade the planet, that will drop the score. After that try demand surrender again.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sorry Rollo, it's not about surrender. It's about accepting subjugation or protectorate treaties.
You can define the score for subjugation and protectorate in the politics.txt file but although the score is lower for these treaties than for surrender the AI will not accept these treaties as far as I have seen it. However he will surrender one or two turns later, which is not very logical IMO.
