Politics and the AI - Questions

My Corrian race is moving along quite well. In the Last game I played against them, at turn 150 they were in second place with a ton of WP's and various ships, however when I took them over to see how they were doing, I noticed that they had made treaties with almost everyone they met, and by doing so, had colonies spread all over the galaxy. Eventually they will go to war and will have easily defeated colonies which will be a setback to the economy. I am now going to try to mod the anger and politics files to keep them more condensed and protected, but alas, I don't have a clue on these two. Can someone give me a general idea or explanation of the effects of raising or lowering the numbers in these files?

PS - Sorry about the length of the post.

EDIT - Typos, I guess I will start using that preview button.

Unfurtunately I see no way to make them colonize in a "condensed" way. I think that would be another important new feature that you could specify the priorities for the colonization minister. You can however avoid treaties by changing (= decreasing) the base anger level for proposing/accepting and breaking treaties.

There is an entry in AI_politics file
"highest allowed treaty". Set it to Military Alliance. There will be no more problems with scattered colonies.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That I found and set to "Trade and Research" because I don't want anybody taking advantage of my ability to colonize and build resupply depots. How does this effect the scattered colony problem?

"How does this effect the scattered colony problem?"

If the AI can see more of the map, it'll send colonies to more of the map. If it has Partnership- ESPECIALLY with an Ancient race!- it will see a much larger section of the map.

This will slow down the colonization of distant systems and the scattering of colonies but not prevent it. One thing the AI is pretty good in my experience is the use of scout ships so even without partnership treaties he will eventually know most of the quadrant unless he has almost no treaties at all, then the scout ships will not get very far!

Actually, I'd like a "don't colonize systems claimed by other races" flag or something. I *never* make treaties with any of the AIs because they tend to start colonizing systems I've already claimed. Very frustrating.

(That is, a flag for the races that are mostly peaceful.)
