To Geoschmo: Voyager Scenario

at about 7 turns after start, Voyager runs out of minerals and it is scrapped.

Is this what was intended to happen or some error?

BTW, this is GOLD.

what you have to do is, if i recall correctly, voyager can make a colony ship, you make a colony then hope you can get some trade going before your ship is scrapped

Nope, Voyager can't make a colony ship, Voyager is a colony ship. Making a colony automatically destoys Voyager. It doesn't end the scenario though. You could could plant a colony and try to expand your empire in the Delta quadrant and eventually some of your decendants may reach Earth. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Running out of resources and having Voyager scrapped does end the scenario. As does getting Voyager destroyed in battle obviously.

The idea is to find a way to accquire enough resources, either by treaties, or by trade, to keep Voyager maintained long enough to reach Federation space. The colony comp is just a way out, an alternate way to survive if things get tough with the aliens you meet. The goal is to make contact with the Federation, one way or the other.

I think this struggle for resources fits with the theme of the series, especially the first season. A lot of the early episodes centered around Voaygers search for resources to survive the trip home. And several times they faced the tough decision of whether to give up and find a planet to settle in the Delta quadrant. I tried to capture both of these points in the scenario.

Wihtout the element of urgency that the resource cap puts on this scenario you could leasiurly take your time getting back. THis way you have to pick you battles, conserve ammo, movement, and make peace with some of the aliens you meet so that they will hook you up wiht money. I also switched sides once, i mean took on the role of a computer player and it was very fun, the scenario is very advanced in the game for the computers that is.
