Re: I lost the \'é\' in my name!
I suppose you've to type HTML code for your name, for a "é" code is "& e a c u t e ;" -WITHOUT the blanks !!- so itfor your first name type :

Re: I lost the \'é\' in my name!
Actually, it's probably not HTML for Andrés, but rather ASCII control characters. If you're not using an "English" keyboard, you'll likely have accents and/or accented characters which don't appear in common English. To avoid forcing folks to jump through hoops to use what to them are standard characters, these'll be directly incorporated [my personal experience with this is the French keyboard (oh, 'tis a dream for writting French!), but I'd imagine Andrés' would be similar]. But you can get these ACCs with a standard keyboard, and I tested these for the name: Alt-130 or Alt-0233. Neither worked. Thus, tho' the effect is the same, it looks like the problem isn't HTML...
Frankly, if I were in Andrés' position, I'd politely inquire if this can be changed (tho' I can think of some technical reasons which might justify this decision). This is, after all, a fairly international board, and 'twould be nice if'in folks could use their own (properly accented) names... E. Albright [Edit: D'oh! I just noticed your location, PDF! Sorry if I sounded pedantic; I figured I was lecturing another Yank!] [ May 21, 2002, 16:37: Message edited by: E. Albright ] |
Re: I lost the \'é\' in my name!
Ok, bonjour mon ami E.Albright (something to do with Madeleine ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )
I tried changing my sig to put an é (this one is on my keyboard http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ), nothing to do, with or without html ... The good path is the Last sentence of the message "admin may have restricted high bit characters". I think it was not reset properly when the board crashed Last week. Probably need to ask Richard about the non-english character support. Geoschmo |
Re: I lost the \'é\' in my name!
It dosen't seem to be a problem for me.

I have to do a similar thing with my sig in order to maintain the angle-brackets around all my links. If I don't replace them all with "& lt" or "& gt" then they are treated as bad HTML tags. |

I hadn't try the html code, because I though the error message suggested it wouldn't work, and and I thought E.Albright said he had tried. |
Re: I lost the \'é\' in my name!
That is a pretty generic error message http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
And when you have to use the extended Version of a character, it can really push the length limit on the names. It seems like the profile only rejects the high-bit Version of the é, and not the HTML Version. Quote:
Arghh. I think it might be me. Some of my old Posts still show as my original name. This could be bad. I hope I don't have to bug Richard about this http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif [ May 22, 2002, 04:20: Message edited by: Suicide Junkie. ] |
