TDM Guys-- How\'dyoudodat??

Those Orks of yours got some pretty nifty moves! I've known this was a possible manuveur for some time now, but I didn't think the AI could manage it!

A lone Ork ship entered a system I was just recolonizing. The Orks had recently slagged my fledgling colonies. I had a fleet in the system so it was time for payback. After the simul turn ran, I noticed there was no combat replay available and the map showed an enemy still in the system. I ran the movement log and saw my fleet catch the s. o. b. and he immediately moved away. Since I am first player, I can move onto his ship and he can then move away on the same day. Soon he got to the warp point and then BACKTRACKED! I still couldn't catch him of course!

Next turn, he plays games with me by flipping back and forth between two adjacent sectors and I still can't catch him! I don't know how I could have been more PO'd while LMAO.

Finally I brought in another fleet, he changed his tactics and I caught him when (I assume) he ran out of gas.

What I want to know is how did you guys manage to get the AI to do that without messing with the code? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

" after the simul turn ran"

I didn't know that there could be a simultaneous turn in what looks to be SP play.

Sure, Dogberry, you just set the game to "hotseat" and "simultaneous play". I use it all the time to test out ideas for PBW and just to have a fun game. It works exactly like PBW except you don't send the turn in. Instead the turn is run immediately when you hit end turn.

Grandpakim - To be honest, that is a surprise to me, and I didn't realize that they would do that. I have an idea how they did it, but do you happen to know what kind of ship it was?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It was a "known" design. A light cruiser with fairly ordinary attack ship configuration: Missiles, DUC's, point defense, some armor, no shields, contra terrene 1. I don't think it had self destruct.

Frankly, all the ship had to do was keep moving; it was the little dance it played that blew me away. A human might just do that, thumbing his nose at my ponderous fleet, but the AI?

I guess it was simply some AI error or just an 'accident'

Or maybe, just maybe, the AI has gone beyond what any human will ever fathom. They have evolved, not through human aid but by their own machinations (sp?) well till i get taken over by the next MEAIE (Mega Evil AI Empire)
