Identifying shipsets...
Is there any way to identify an unknown shipset from the *.gam file? I mean, a shipset which isn't present on your HD, so that the game loads a random one each time... The game must have some means to know what directory name it must use for loading the pictures.
I suppose it's a rather common problem on PBW... We had a player which did not specify his empire's shipset, then left the game (he actually "disappeared", after missing some turns...). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
Re: Identifying shipsets...
When a game owner downloads all the player's .emp (empire) files and begins to create a game, they will see each empire's flag on the add player screen as they incorporate them into the game.
If anyone can identify the shipset for you the game owner could. If they have forgotten the shipset as well, but, saved the .emp files they can create a game on their pc and add that empire to a game in order to view the flag and determine which shipset was used. I am by no means an expert and I am unsure if what you want is possible to determine from the .gam file. I am curious as to wither or not it is possible as well. I gather from reading your post that players did not post which shipsets they were using in the game forum, correct? (edited- Of course, this assumes the game owner had the correct shipset on their HD. Sorry, I have not had my coffee yet.) Hornet X1 [ May 27, 2002, 17:51: Message edited by: Hornet X1 ] |

Are all the other players getting the random shipsets, too? If there's even one person who isn't, he should be able to identify the proper shipset.
