Are there any neutral races\' modifications?

Hey guys,
I do enjoy the way SEIV handled what they called 'neutral' races, but the ones that exist are simply too daft for being cramped into one system. Anyone got some modified neutral AIs they can share? I can only use 1.49 though so that format of mods are preferred, but post your Gold mods too so if someone cool enough to have the Gold Version sifts by this thread he'll find some neutral AI mods too.

Thanks!!

P.S - Is there any way for an neutral AI to use a different shipset other than 'generic'? (Other than of course replacing the generic files)

And what game settings do you reckon neutral style races do best in? I suspect few starting planets & small quadrants but I want to hear your opinions as well.

Thanks again

Create a racial tech called 'Neutral Race' and give it some advantages. I gave mine a 'Seat of Government' facility that combines Urban Pacification Center with reduced chance for bad intel and combat modifiers (all explainable as 'morale' from having a good government & sense of identity).

You can change the generic shipset just like you can change any other shipset. I would recommend 'Federal Union' from the mods area because it's got a nice 'retro' look to it. The neutrals then look like 'primitve' space faring races as you would expect but still have more stylish look than the default generic.

There is also a "neo-neutral" mod out there somewhere, which adds four cool new enutrals to the game. Haven't seen it since gold came out, but I'm sure you could find a copy if you went to Universal Shipyards or somewhere like that. Click my banner below, and then navigate to my SEIV links page for the URL.

I'm surprised more AI modders don't take up the challenge of trying to create an effective neutral. I'd be happy to provide the necessary graphics if anyone is inteested.

It wouldn't be bad to give them some advanced research, production, building, etc. facilities. That way, they'd have a better chance at survival and could support larger fleets. Of course, some editing of the politics files would be necessary, so human players don't just take advantage of the better techs.

Kuat Drive Yards does here: http://se4kdy.cyberwars.com/

As for new pics for the neutrals: strip the AI from another race (with permission) then add your own AI. Or what I did for the Orion Faction originally was re-color the default shipset...

or get Doga L2 or L3 and make your own http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

There may be others who make neutral races...

There are several new neutral AIs in the B5 mod - some with a few unique ships even http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif The AI should work with standard 1.49, as yet there are no specific research files.
