Anyone remember Warp War? can it be done in SEIV

If you remember it had system ships which were not capable of star travel (they did most the fighting) Warpships had a Warp Generator. Can a component be designed in SEIV to allow for warp generators? Dictating which ship types can move between stars. Also a component called a ship rack allowed Warp ships to carry system ships. Can this component be designed for SEIV? Allowing Warp ships to "drop off" system ships for combat, after reaching a star system.. Just thinking about these mods in advance...
Larry--the non-programmer but big imagination... I'll learn enough to mod this game or eat dirt.

I think somebody did this, using really big fighters. Since units can't move through warp points unless they're on another ship, it's a perfect analogy for system ships. Just a few tweaks to the tech files are needed. Make fighters bigger, allow "ship" weapons on fighters, and make the engines bigger.

IE: edit vehiclesize.txt, and make all of the warship hulls ":= fighter"

Then, romp through components.txt, and make most of the stuff "All" or "Fighter" instead of "Ship/Base".

Copy the Fighter Bays, and make them "Ship Rack" with piles of storage (500 KT to fit a cruiser, for example).

Just an early warning: this isn't exact.

your system ships will stack, so you can have 15 Cruisers in a single combat square, and they won't be able to take internal damage.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">If MM would implement a couple of things you could do this.

First, the 'ability required' setting for warp points. Then you could make transit through a warp point require a special ability in the ship. You could then have a 'jump drive' component in the game, and ships without the jump drive would be able to carry more armament and defenses of course.

Second the ability of ships to carry other ships. We've requested 'docking bays' for bases before. Like so many other things, we've never heard any response one way or the other. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I'll take this opportunity to repeat my plea for separate engines for combat movement, strategic movement, and warping. Would immediately enrich the game greatly. Only question is: could the AIs handle a more complicated system? I think they could, but it would take some effort. At worst you could just give the AIs generic ships with the same capabilities that they have now.

ps It would also be cool if you couldn't see WPs until you had researched them.

BTW, you could do a little of what you want by setting up the map with no WPs. And you'd want to mod the research cost of stellar manip, or else the game would take forever. Unfortunately, the WP Creator component only works once and makes a permanent WP. Whereas, what you want is a WP Creator component that works as many times as you want, but only makes temporary WPs. So what we need is for MM to give us a wider variety of WPs. Along with that, I'd like to see WP Stabilizer components, for putting on starbases.

Something you can do with SEIV as it is right now, is to make huge galaxies with lots of empty systems, in order to simulate the vast wastelands of interstellar space. Then give everyone WP Creation/Destruction at the beginning of the game (otherwise the AI would be totally crippled). Maybe QuantumReactor also.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">My Hypermaze mod has a similar effect; nearly half of the systems are hyperspace zones, and colonizable normal systems are about as common as in an Ancient quadrant.

OM is like that most systems are completely empty. Also as for warp wars they make an apearence in OM also.A primitive races first space shuttles(witch are more or less the level of tech we have in real life now). They have lkong range satalites like we do but also their first ship the Shuttle is a massive thing and cant warp

WE NEED DOCKING BAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! o so bad, and the different warp point types/stabilizers and o so much more too. Maybe Aaron could employ some ppl to help him add to the code adn test it????? not me though as i have no exp.
