Open/Close Wormhold Strategy

I played SE4 extensively over the holiday weekend and have a few observations and questions. I'll post seperately to make it easier for the FAQ folks to organize them. Thanks in advance for your help!

I was playing a game with all sectors not connected by wormholes and had taken over all sectors connected to mine. I developed a strategy of opening a new wormhole, moving the fleet through to an unconquered sector, and closing the wormhole in the same turn. I thought I was just slick! Well, in that turn the computer's intelligence could get me! The first time I did this, it sabotaged a ship, stole some intelligence, and otherwise did some nasty things to me, even though I never left the wormhole open even for a full turn! I couldn't even establish diplomatic channels.

This tactic (aside from the sabotage) works great in conjunction with cloaked ships. In a later game when I wasn't doing as well I think the AI did the same thing, although I didn't have the sensors to verify it.

Using the stellar manipulation techs to close wormholes is a great way of cutting off an enemy sector from reinforcements too. Bust in with a fleet and splinter off a few Groups with the ability to close wormholes. Get over to the enemy's wormholes and close them down. After that, its your show, unless of course he's got the ability to open them back up.

Re: Open/Close Wormhold Strategy

In PBW, you CAN order a ship to move to System(x1,y1) then open a wrap point at that sector, then move away to another (x2,y2). All in the same turn if the ship has enough movement point.

But you CAN'T order a ship to move to System(x1,y1) and close the wrap point there in one single turn.

You need to move the ship to the same sector of the wrap point in one turn. Then order it to close wrap point at the next turn and move away which u need 2 turns to complete.

This is kinda stupid, why can't the close wp ship work the same way as open wp ship? take a list of order and execute in all one turn?!

Another thing that bug me if you give it a list of order:

If u park the close wrap point ship at one wp (x0,y0) [not the one you want to close] then you give it a list of order as below.

move to System (x1,y1) --- another wrap point
close that wrap point

What will happen?
It will close the wrap point at (x0,y0) first then move to (x1,y1)
There's not what I want!!

Is this a bug or what?

You can't give a ship an order that it can't do at the moment you give the order, unless that order is designed to specify a different location.

Since you can open a warp point anywhere, you can always give that order, but since you have to be at a warp point to close it, you can't chain that order.

Another example: you can't order an empty ship to load satellites, then launch them remotely, but a ship with sats in cargo can launch remotely, then go load more.

I think your Last example is a bug, though.

I always.

1 Select the fleet to move to where ever it is in that system
2. Open the warp point

then next turn i close it.

Works basicly the same except your closer is left by itself or with another fleet to protect it.
