Melee Weapons
 
Here's a rather odd idea.

Melee weapons for space ships. Basically, weapons that work by ramming the enemy ship. Not warheads, though, because those explode and destroy the ship using them. Melee weapons would be like giant detachable spears (or other things - use your imagination). The ship "rams" the spear into the other ship while flying by. The spear detaches when it hits and the attacker gets away without incurring ramming damages (though it loses the spear it used).

The Orcs in my Starscape game have a ship that does this. It's a cool idea and I think it could work in SEIV. I might try putting something like that together next time I have more time.

Well, you could just mod a weapon with a maximum range of one... that's how the devnullmod monsters use their bite/ claw weapons.
