Modding question (re Proportions)
While writing a little program I used the proportions facility.txt file to test it and noticed that some of the facilites (the Cultural ones) had some abilities listed multiple times. for example the Metropolis has Resource Storage - Organics list several times all with value 1 and 2 as 0. Is there a reason why one would want to do this??

Re: Modding question (re Proportions)
I can see several reasons for this: If in later Versions he wishes to add new abilities, it will allow him to keep it backwards compatable, or 2 he could have removed abilities but wanted it to be backwards compatible.

Re: Modding question (re Proportions)
If by backwards-compatibility you mean savegames are compatible, then those extra abilities can be removed, and it will still be compatible.
One copy of them might be used to tell an AI to build the facility, but two copies is completely useless. |
Re: Modding question (re Proportions)
Yes, PvK tried very hard to make old save games
compatible with new Versions. If you want to use proportions files for your mod, or if you don't have old proportions save games and want to install its latest Version, you can safely delete all facilities and components that have "unaccesible technology" as one of the requirements. |

But multiple copies of abilities in a single component or facility that do nothing can certainly be removed. Just leave one copy of each ability type in case it is used by the AIs |

Hmmmm. Me still confused. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Me also consume too much beer.
So does the game require oh say that abilityNo 8 for a comonent exist for the previous game file to load? ie in Proportions Ability 7 and 8 for a Major City are both Resource Storage - Organics with a Value1 of 0. So they seem to do nothing. Are these just place holders for ability 7 and 8 that were something else in a previous verion? |
