What in blue blazes is an Ancient Quadrant and ...

... how about a Midlife? Is that one going through a crisis?

I'm new to this game but am experienced in MOO.

I know you know this but the 'manual' supplied with this game is a travesty obviously compiled by a cretin with no experience with the game or manual construction -- but I digress.

I am unable to find an explanation for the various quadrant types (other than the obvious) there and the Online doesn't help either. Have I just missed it?

I also assume that is I change the max planets to a higher number - I have to supply the names. The map size gets no bigger though that I can see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

The Mid-Life quadrant is the standard quadrant type. It has a lot of stars that are in their Main Sequence phase (standard solar systems).

Ancient has a lot of "dead" systems. There are more Black Holes, Nebulas, Super Novae, Dead Star Systems, etc.

The map itself is always the same size. Increasing the number of systems makes the map denser.

You can increase or decrease the number of systems in the settings.txt file located in the data directory. The default is 100 and Max is 255.

Yes, if you increase the max number of systems you'll have to use a bigger System Names file. I think there's an expanded System Names file on the SEIV Gold CD; if not, the Mod forum here at Shrapnel should have a couple System Names files posted.

I think the one I put in my Quadrant Mod is the longest one I could find. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

There is a very brief description of each type in their entries in the QuadrantTypes.txt file.
