PBW Game - Dimension X, 2.0

I can't recall who all was in the original Dimension X game with me, but it was a bLast. I am starting a new one if anyone is interested.

10 starting planets, 6 players, small quadrant. Should get hopping pretty quickly.

Hi,

This sounds pretty appealing, so count me in.

Now I don't mind about Intel, but I'd really like to play without Mines. Surely the grossest technology in existence, and as far as I can see they make early game warfare either boring or impossible.

That is the entire purpose of mines: to slow down enemy attacks and to force them to waste resources on minesweepers.

I agree that's what they're for. The point is, they're incredibly cheap for what they do. A technology that can;
</font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Defeat any level of cloaking
    </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Automatically distinguish friend from foe
    </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Intercept targets with 100% success rate
    </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Are completely undetectable (unless using the Soviet method)
    </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Move so fast that they can cover huge volumes of space, and chase down ships no matter how fast they are
    </font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Are so smart that they destroy all targets simultaneously, so none of the enemy has the chance to stop or flee
    </font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">is pretty damn amazing!
My experience of mines is that once they're on the map, the risk they pose paralyses any early game opponent. At that stage, no one can afford to build a fleet of minesweepers (plus the fleet of warships that is supposed to go with them), and few will want to risk the resource cost of trying to use one or two - because you never know how big a minefield is.
I think it's fun playing in the early game when you're not hiding behind a solid border of mines, and are constantly having to trade-off between defese and economic development.
I enjoy fighting wars with early tech, when a few ships have to cover a big border.
I'm not arguing that mines are unbalancing - anyone can use them - but they are very boring.
IMHO.

Yeah Tesco I am playing. I fogot to join. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I just had what is either an interesting idea, or a really bad idea. You guys make the call.

What if we set the mines in space limit for the game really low. Like 300 - 500. Then say you can put as many mines up as you want. So you'd have one REALLY bad *** minefield, and basically nothing anywhere else.

It would be like russian roulette. You can't defend all the planets, but which one is defended and which isn't? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Anyway, it's an idea. Maybe for another game instead of this one.

In joining this game interested I'd be.
From the beginning to play I want, not an empire set up by someone else like Last time.

Aiee Andres. The game filled up so quick. We already have 6 players. I will present it to the others to see about expanding it a bit. Or perhpas if there is that much interest I could have two Dimenon X games. This one did fill rather quickly.

Question, you do have Gold correct? 2.0 is a Gold Game.
