Minefield Question

A minefield question!

If one of my planets is being blockaded by a hostile vessel and I launch a minefield into that sector, under what conditions will the blockading vessel hit the mines?

If the ship moves out of the sector it hits the mines (already verified that). What if it attacks the planet or does some other kind of order?

Re: Minefield Question

i dont know about mines that are launched, but if a ship enters a minefield around a planet while the planet is frendly, and the planet becomes hostile while the ship is there, the ship will be able to attack the planet without being hit by the mines.

so i would assume that it works the same way if the mines are launched into the same sector as the ship. in fact, im sure it would. either way, if the ship sits still for a turn, the result is the same. the ship is sharing a sector with unfriendly mines. how they got there the turn before wont make a difference.

so yes, the ship can attack the planet without being hit, or it can attack other ships without being hit.

Re: Minefield Question

Really? I thought mines only went off when targets ENTERED their sector.

Frankly, I was a little surprised as well...

It seems to me I've seen the minefields triggered on exiting a sector myself.

Re: Minefield Question

My buddy had an observation scout sitting on a warp point in a system with an AI player he had a trade alliance with. The AI declared war on him and he moved the scout out of the system and it blew up on a minefield dropped by the AI while leaving the warp point sector moving into the new system. The AI had dropped the minefield on the warp point underneath him when they were still allied.

At least that is how he described it and it is what brought up the whole question in the first place.

Edit for more context.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ack! I misread that. Sorry. I thought he was asking if they would go off while esiting, not saying they do go off while exiting. I have never seen that either.

Re: Minefield Question

I'm pretty sure I've seen it happen once. one of the first PBW games I did. I attacked a planet and killed it, not hitting the minefield, then I move off the planet and got smacked by a few mines.

Pretty sure that is how it went down.
