Modding Mishaps
Well well...I am a dork. It's amazing what adding a new component in the middle of a game can do. I ended up with ships loaded up entirely with self-destruct devices and other such nonsensical items. And...strangley...everyone seemed to magically gain some nasty temporal weaponry... My...my.
As you can tell...I am new to making these sorts of modifications and have certainly never tried it mid-game. I added a new component in the middle of the component file instead of at the end...is that making the difference? Or...should I have just been smart and made my changes AFTER I had conquered the world (ha ha ha!!)? |
Re: Modding Mishaps
Lord_Shleepy. I am pretty certain adding comps in the middle of the comps file should not cause what you are seeing. You aren't by chance trying to mod the demo are you? That may explain it. If it is the retail Version you are trying to mod, I think that the problem lies somewhere else other than simply the order the comps are in.

No Geo, he's correct. Pretty much all of the data files have their entries identified in sequence, so if you add an entry in the middle, all the later ones will be thrown out of sequence, and if and only if you are trying to upgrade a game in progress then items will change type in mid-game.
You have to add new stuff to the end to be able to upgrade an existing game to a new mod. PvK |

Coolness. I expected as much... Now I'll know what to avoid in the future. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hmm. Well don't that beat all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I am going to have to stop answering these questions. I am wrong more than I am right.
