Re: At What Point Do You Know You Have Won
I have played something to the order of nearly a 1000 games of SEIV now. Of all of them, I have only finished 2. I am still working on one from 1.49, and hope that some day I will finish it.
The new patch will be out in days, and that means all of my saved games, (Currently 5) will have to be either finished or trashed. I love this game so very much, but hate knowing that I am going to win at X point. I too love the P mod, in conjunction with Fyrons Q mod, and the Mount Mod (Dont remember who made that). I love games that take a really long time to play. I hate moving out into the galaxy to find that the AI has already colonized half the galaxy, and immedately upon meeting me declares war. They have a fleet of 500 ships, all dreadnoughts, to my fledgling fleet of 30 Destroyers. A most bummer situation to be assured. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I love the game, and feel that the concentration of the modders should be toward making the game play more expansive... I enjoy making new components, facilities, and such. I think I get more enjoyment out of making new things than I currently do from playing the game. The RPG aspect of the game, for writing purposes is also a gread deal of fun. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But overall, I make it to about turn 150 and I know I have won. I still love the game though and play the hell out of it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: At What Point Do You Know You Have Won
What I really want in some future SE patch is the ability to call design names in Unit_construction.txt file. As it is now I think it uses only design types. The fix will allow to programm AI to build versatile homeworld defences in Proportions. At least I think I know how it would be possible to achieve.

Re: At What Point Do You Know You Have Won
Why in the world do you want to trash your savegames because of the patch? The game just runs fine with the old savegames (and it always did after each and every patch)!

What I like is the way taking such a heavily fortified place typically turns into a siege! Quote:

I'm trying to switch as much of my defence as possible to units, but I'm still not sure how I'm going to beat him (short of glassing, which is unnacceptable.) One tactic I'm considering is the "troop swarm". If I sent in dozens of troops-laden scouts with PD and ECM, some of them ought to make it down to the surface, surely. |
Re: At What Point Do You Know You Have Won
I know I have won when I am able to destroy the enemy ships without the loss of one of mine.

What you have to do is accept that you have to go into deficit spending, and 'get it done' before you go bankrupt. That's not going to be easy with a small homeworld, mind. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif You might have to spend some time building up your storage first. How long are you prepared to wait? Of course, the other thing to remember is that if you take out all his other worlds, just blockading his homeworld will stop him building or maintaining other units - at least, it did when it happened to me! - so maintaining a blockade while you build up is important. I guess I'll think of something. A siege is definitely part of strategy, as soon as I can knock out the fleets and stations. |
