Suggestion for modders

It has come to my attention recently that there is a file size upload limit for the PBW file library. I was not aware of this previously. I am not sure of the exact limit, it might be around 5MB or so. This would cause a problem for anyone wishing to post their large, image heavy mods in the PBW library.

You can split your mod into managable chunks, and then upload them a piece at time, but that would be a bit cluttered in the mod library if we have 4 or 5 or more entries for each mod.

However, there is an efficent way to do this. If you uplaod the first chunk, and then upload the next chunk not as a separate mod, but as a new revision, and so on. For someone going to download they will only see the Last chunk you upload by default, but if they click on the "Show all revisions" link in the library it will then break that out and show them each chunk as a separate download.

I can go into the server and put the chunks all together once you upload them separatly and make it available as one large download. By doing this people will have the option of downloading it all as one, or in pieces if they have bandwith problems.

Thanks.

Re: Suggestion for modders

Use WinRAR and split the file into multiple files as done on NG's. The user would then DL the RAR's and reconstruct the file in WinRAR. BTW - if you do this use SmartPAR to construct a few PAR files in case one or two of your files get corrupted somehow. The PAR's can reconstruct a damaged file.

I know some of you know all about this.

WinRAR will also make self-executing files, so if all RAR files and the .exe are in the same directory, you do not have to have WinRAR to extract. I believe that Winzip 8.1 and higher also have this feature.
