Newbie question on ammunition.. ?
Just tried the demo out recently and have been playing around a bit with it. I noticed that some weapons I use I seem to be able to fire once and beyond that they are useless for the remainder of that battle. Others I seem to be able to fire every round. How can you determine which weapons have a limited number of times they can fire? One such weapon is one I found in ruins. I think it was like an Ionic Engine destroyer or something, takes up 100kt of space. It never seems to recharge.
I know that in some other games I've played like this (MOOII), certain weapons needed time to re-energize before firing again. Is this the case in SEIV? I noticed missles also seem to have a delay... Any help for the newcomer? Thanks in advance! |
Re: Newbie question on ammunition.. ?
The delay is the reload rate.
Some are set to 30 turns, so they never refire in one round of combat. Most fall in the 1, 2, or 3 Category...as far as reload |
Re: Newbie question on ammunition.. ?
Yeah, missiles take a long time to reload, but they always hit if the target stays in range and do a lot of damage. Some weapons take 2 or even 3 turns to reload. The weapon's description in the design window tells you how long. The combat window gives you a countdown turn by turn so
"Run away, Run aeay" That ruins tech has a reload of 30, and combat Lasts 30 turns, so you get one shot. Make it count. There's a racial tech, the alligence subverter that also is a once per combat weapon. Likewise the fighters have rocket pods, one shot and then they're just cannon fodder |
Re: Newbie question on ammunition.. ?
Thanks for the insight. I never noticed the countdown or reload times listed but I will look again when I go home tonight. Also thanks for the tip on the one shot only weapons... Now I understand why my ships with only that one weapon would miss and then get blown to smithereens because they could no longer attack. Heh.

Yeah, it sucks when one-shot weapons miss... maybe they should have a bonus to hit! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
