Storage Facilities

I am (still) using only the demo....got a question, tell me if i am wrong....the resources that your empire mines and all, what is left over disappears after that turn, right?

And the storage facilities can store and keep those resources for later use, right?

Re: Storage Facilities

You have a base storage rate of 50K. Extra resources that you generate are put into this empire-wide storage bin. If you already have the maximum amount of resources that you can store in storage, any more resources will be lost. Storage facilities allow you to store more excess resources.

Does it tell you somewhere what your current storage capacity is, or do you have to count up your storage facilities by hand?

The Empire 'economy' screen (first window under the 'crown' button) shows a summary of all your resource income and production, how they are being spent, and at the bottom your net totals and storage capacity.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Click on the Gold Crown. The amount of materials you're producing, amount on hand and total storage capacity for each type of resource is spelled out for you.

Doh! I seem to have a mental block when it comes to that particular window. Thanks, guys.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Some would say 10 to 5 :1: 2 or 3. Minerals:organics:radioactives. This is affected by:
1). racial needs, organic weapons, crystaline weapons
2). your ship choices, energy weapons and shields vs DUC's and armor have different maintenance needs
3). MOD's may change needs radically, for more realisim and challenge http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
4). Facilities you choose to build, some need more organics and rads than others, building or upgrading many at once may bankrupt you.
5). If you just produce enough, you may not need any storage.
6). How much is maintenance and construction are outstriping your production, press the crown and say hmm, how long can I live if I become MEE and all trade alliances dissoved tomorrow?

This discussion, when it comes up, rapidly becomes a holy war, some people never build storage. And scoff at the horders and their little walled cities and isolationist stance. But I feel you gotta have some storage.

Yes, you definitely need storage. I try to colonize every planet I can and put at least one store facility on it.

Speaking of the empire screen, how does the tariff function work? I've never used it, or had it used on me.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are two treaty types -- subjugation and protectorate. They provide that race that proposed them with tariff income at the expense of the race that accepted. It's rare for the AI to accept these treaties, however
