Units that break formation
On the strategy setup screen, when I set the types of units that will break formation, does this apply when the unit has the selected strategy, or when the fleet does?
For example, if a fleet has the "optimal firing range" strategy, but some ships have the "kamikaze" strategy, and I want just the kamikazes to break formation, is it right to just set "ships break formation" on the kamikaze strategy? |
Re: Units that break formation
The Fleet's strategy will determine which vehicles do what.
Once they have broken formation, they should proceed on the strategy defined for that particular class of ship. If you want kamikaze ships to break formation and warships to stay, then make them into two separate fleets. Shift-Click the two fleets, and tell them to attack: they will move and fight together for the next game turn. If you want them to continue to move together after that, clear their orders (if any), and shift-click, give orders them again. |
Re: Units that break formation
I believe two fleets moving the same path will only move together if they have identical movement rates, otherwise the faster fleet arrives earlier. Also, if they have equal movemement rates, they do not resolve minefields together. Which ever fleet moves first will face the minefield.

Re: Units that break formation
Normally, yes. Shift-clicking a group of ships and/or fleets will make them act as if they are in a fleet for one turn worth of movement. They will also move the same speed regardless of differences in individual ship speed.

Yeah, I just found that out. :-(

Re: Units that break formation
Does that work in PBW games?
If so, that should be added to the 'strategy guide' |
