One lightyear

If I can open a wormhole to a star 500 ly away, how far is that?
Is a grid on the big map 1 Ly?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">186,000 miles per second x 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours x 365.25 days x 500 years = A very big number.

And you thought it was a long way to the shops at the end of the street...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Someone else noted, the distance is a straight line from system to system, so you'll need the Pythagorean theorm to know for sure. And you only get a big zoomed in map when you activate a warp opener.

The following are the calibrations I work with:

Level 1 warp opener reaches almost nowhere on a sparse map, maybe a close neigboring system, you know, if adjacent systems lost their warp point.

Level 2 is better, maybe the first one that's worth while. But then, isn't that the case with every tech in SE4?

Level 5 goes almost halfway across the map, but by then, you have so many resources you could build 2 or more in your fleet and be practically anywhere in no time.
