PBW Problem - Combat Replay

Has anyone had problems with Combat Replay in PBW?

I'm in the Survivor 2 tournament and cannot replay the battle that occurred in the most recent turn and which I apparently won. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Combat Replay works well when I play solo against the computer's AI.

The message I get is in the Survivor 2 game is:

Quote:

Cannot open file c:\my games\space

empires iv gold\savegame\Survivors2rd1_Combat.cmb
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I normally play from a "Survivors 2" file. Tried clearing the "savegame" file, saving the zip file to it, extracting the files from the zip file and loading the game from it. Same problem.

The files extracted are:
Survivor2rd1.gam
Survivor2rd1_Combat.cmb
Survivor2rd1_log.trn

Geoschmo says he is able to play the the battle on his machine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

I have a year old P4 with XP which has been working well. Survivors 2 is a SE4 gold 1.78 game.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

This may just be a typo, but your error Messages is looking for a file called survivors while you extracted files called survivor without the 's'

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay

All save games should be in the save directory.... If you create additonal directories off the root of save you will see this error. I had that happen for months since i like to directory everything... and no since i store all saves and related files in the root save directory this problem has gone away..

Try it and see if it works

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hmmm... not sure what you mean by directory. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif You are talking to a Mac user of 20 years where our terms are somewhat different.

All my games are saved in c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\NAME OF GAME FILE. "NAME OF GAME FILE" are a number of files including "savegame" and "Survivors 2".

In other words the path to "savegame" would be c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\savegame and the path to "Survivors 2" would be c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\Survivors 2

I don't think this is significant but in the warning, some of the words are not capitalized whereas in the path to the file, they are.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Okay, chuck the "Survivor 2" folder and just unzip to the "savegame" folder. Even if you have a dozen games in there and it looks cluttered, each game's files will be led off with the game name, so they should all be grouped together. Like Puke, I've had movement log problems, but not this; still, I think this will clear up your problem.

Actually I did that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif when I discribed my problem in the first message of this thread.

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay

\Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame

is where i drop all my save games

before i had

\Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame\game1
\Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame\game12

etc..
and i had the combat problems

For movement problems... you have to have the previous turn opened on that computer.

IE... if you play a turn at work and then a turn at home make sure you open the turn from home next day at work...and then save it... And then open the current turn....

Hope that helps... ( thanks geo for the movement log solution )

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay

Many thanx tesco

Your reply gave me an idea.

Unzipping the compressed file gives me the file
Quote:

Survivor 2rd1_14
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Then I copied all the files out of Survivor 2rd1_14 to "savegame" directly.

And it worked! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I would think that the program would look for the combat file in the same Survivor 2rd1_14 folder where it found the data for the turn. But apparently it doesn't.

It is a workaround which works but is kinda messy.

Does anyone have a better solution?
