Score History in Multiplayer (PBW)
I'm in my first multiplayer game via PBW, and have a question. I see that the game was set up so that we can never view the other players' scores, but I also notice that I cannot see my own score history graphs either. I like to view this sometimes simply to see how I'm trending in general. Is the lack of this graph related to playing multiplayer? Or is it because the public scores are just turned off?

Re: Score History in Multiplayer (PBW)
Actually it's because by default PBW doesn't send the stats.txt files. That is what the game uses to generate the graphs. The game owner can set it to send the stats files, but you could then read the other players files directly with notepad or something and see what the other players stats are. Even players that you haven't met in the game.
The problem is to save on some complexity PBW was coded so that the zip file sent to each player is identical. So you either get no stats.txt files, or you get all of them. We could change the PBW code so that when you get your turn you get all the files you get now and just YOUR stats.txt file. This is actually not a bad idea. I will put it on the to do list. It may be a while before you see this though. Geoschmo |
Re: Score History in Multiplayer (PBW)
As with your requests to get monetary help from the PBW community....
How attached are you to the source code for the PBW Web & Client code? i.e. could/would you enlist the help of other developers that might help you add functionality, etc., to the client and/or web application? I'm not a big one on Java, otherwise I might offer a helping hand. I like the Client app, but have my own list of wishes & suggestions for improvement on that. |
Re: Score History in Multiplayer (PBW)
We have a couple of admins already that handle the code work for the front and back ends. We wouldn't really want to get too many people invovled in that because then you start to have issues with consistancy.
If you have any suggestions for features you like to see added we have a forum for that on the website. If you have programming experience and have suggestions for shortcuts on implementing features you can post those as well. Or simply post a comment to that effect and our "code monkey" will get in touch with you by email if you prefer. I try not to get too involved in what they do myself cause then I start to feel stupid. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I know just enough html and javascript to break stuff. I am primarily a hardware guy and a user level admin. Geoschmo |
