Map making - a reprise

OK - I generated a map in SEIV and then saved it and tried to edit it. Despite my changing my start points and adding warp points, et al - when I fire up the game I never get what I edited. That is - I get start points other than those I set and the same ones each time despite that I deleted the originals and added new ones.

Wazzup widdat? Should I generate the map(s) in the editor instead? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

And another thing - unless I generate a map within SEIV first - clicking on Load Map and choosing the saved map file - the new map will not display!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Starting Points:
What method did you use to make starting points - random player or by player#? Are you sure you got rid of the old ones? Saved it?

Map Display:
When you load an edited map into SE:IV, it is not displayed after you select it...but it is there and will be used when you play a game.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I checked for my start points (#1) - deleted all of them and added others where I wanted them.

I did not touch the others and yes - I saved the map after editing it.

As to the latter - yes it is not displayed but it is there when the game starts. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

i dont think that multiple starting points for the same empire work. a single starting point will plunk your planet right there, on the spot, using the plaet found at the start location if its the right atmosphere and type.

a single point for a multiple planet start will drop your planets within the near vacinity of that point.

multiple points do fork-all. unless the way maps are read has been upgraded in gold. i have not tried it lately.

Another thing - when you make a planet a 'ruin planet' - how do you describe it as such?

Any that I've made - when in the game - clicking on them does not display a msg that 'Sensors reveal ...', etc. Though they do show in the Special list under the Planets icon.

Did you add a description blurb when you placed the ruins on the planet?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah - I missed that.

However - there's another problem when I try to add a moon to a start planet. In-game the moon is shown in my atmosphere and the original planet is as well but only the moon is colonized!

And it would be nice if it was possible to move a system rather than having to delete and rebuild it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You can do that: click on the system and press the Edit button on the Galaxy Window, rather than the one under the Space Object List.

i would be nice if you could randomly generate a single system, instead of an entire map. and automatically place warp points between two systems, by selecting them on the galaxy map.
