New Avatar Image.
Under the My Profile\View/Update Profile\Select a different Avatar Image, I am able to import a new Avatar image which appears in my profile.
I then press "Update Profile" Going back to My Profile\View/Update Profile, I find there is no image at all. Anybody know what am I doing wrong? |
Re: New Avatar Image.
Did you click on the Set URL button? Are you sure you DID NOT click on the No Avatar button?
What I did was to download an avatar to Shrapnel's server, entered update profile, entered the URL given me by Shrapnel's computer, pressed set URL button and then Updated Profile. |
Re: New Avatar Image.
I'm not totally certain, but don't you also need to hit "Select this Avatar" for it to work as well?

No, I did not click the No Avatar button Captain Kwok asks: Quote:
Here is what I did: 1) From the My Profile\View/Update Profile\Select a different Avatar Image, a window opens called "Intel Forums - Microsoft Internet Explorer" from which I selected a stock avatar image and saved it to my computer. 2) I ran a paint program and imported the avatar image to it. 3) I modified the avatar image and resaved it to my computer under a different name. 4) From the My Profile\View/Update Profile\Select a different Avatar Image, a window opens called "Intel Forums - Microsoft Internet Explorer" and at the bottom, I enter the path to the "modified avatar image" 5) Clicking "Set URL", causes the modified avatar image to appear in the upper left corner of the window. 6) Clicking the "Select this avatar" causes the window to close and send me back to Profile\View/Update Profile 7) Where it states "Avatar Image" (Just under the birthdate), the modified avatar image is shown. 8) I click "Update Profile" and am returned to the Intel Forums main page. 9) Going back to My Profile\View/Update Profile, shows no avatar image whatsoever. What is the file type of your avatar image?

However, when the paint program saved the modified avatar image, it capitalized jpg (i.e. it was .JPG) So, I amended the suffix of the name of the modified avatar image file from .JPG to .jpg. {Probably a dumb newbie thing to do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif } Anyways, as a result of your e-mail, I went back and amended the suffix to .JPG. and then went throught the same proceedure to change my Avatar image. The results were the same. I did notice a warning when I clicked "Set URL" of the path to the "modified avatar image" It said "Problems with this Web page might prevent it from being displayed properly or functioning properly. line: 97 char: 1 error: invalid character code: 0 URL http//www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi? I occasionally get this message when I surf the net. But it was never a problem. So I just ignored it when it popped up everytime I tried to use the modified avatar image file. |
Re: New Avatar Image.
If that's the exact text of the error message, you're missing a colon; the URL should start with http:// rather than http//

Re: New Avatar Image.
The avatar you're trying to use is on your hard drive, correct?
It probably needs to be uploaded to work. If it is uploaded, please tell us where to.. that might be the problem as well. Phoenix-D |

Upload? Maybe that is the problem. I have been using the "Use custom URL:" in the window "Intel Forums - Microsoft Internet Explorer" which is opened by MyProfile\View/Update Profile\Select a different Avatar Image. Do I upload it somewhere else? [ September 22, 2002, 20:47: Message edited by: tbontob ] |
