scenerio editor for SE4 Gold?
 
Hi,

I got few scenerios from the cd's scenerio pack.

What programs are people using to edit thier own scenerios for this cool game?

Do a search in the forum and you will find 2 things;

1) It is highly requested that a decent scenario editor be instituted.
2) Methods of which to create a scenario.

I don't think we'll ever see an SEIV scenario editor, unless malfador makes available the necessary code for someone to do it themselves.

The thing is, it's perfectly possible to create scenarios using a rather lengthy workaround, and it seems to me that Malfador would rather not spend time on fixes/ features that can be worked-around or modded.

Of course, I'm not Malfador so I could easily be wrong.

But it would be great if they switch off the encryption for the .map files.
So we can make our own editors.
Combined with Fyron's wounderfull Quadrant Mod making greate special maps for scenarios would IMHO be much easier.

Only switching off .map encryption, not .gam!

If its difficult to create scenerios why did they bother to put the scenerio section in the menu,this gave me the impression that an editor was availible. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Well it's difficult, but some people have stuck through it to make it anyway. I suggest "Awakening", another good one is "Homecoming", but you need to understand P&N. There was one based on Star Trek Voyager, but I forget it's name or who made it. MM might want to make some up. Hmm ... there's an idea for the holidays, a CD of scenarios. Probably too late to start on that and still press them.

I think the best use for a scenario would be to set up a game for people to play. Like a non-player makes an enemy race powerfull, but keeps the others weak, then withdraws and lets it go. Someone is doing that for the Rage. I was working on that using default races for a PBW game, but I'll admit, I got annoyed setting it up.

SJ's "Homecoming" was simply a game he was playing that took an unexpected turn. He made the scenario screens and put out there for us. Gotta try that one again sometime.

I also have a chess scenario, in which you have one "King" ship, which generates all of the resources required to maintain the rest of your ships.
There is a powerful "Queen" Battleship, and some "Pawn" destroyers, and some "Rook" baseships.

Each unit has its own specialties.
The rooks have tons of armor and a long range weapon. The bishops are repair ships, and so on...
"Light" side, is represented by the EEE, and "Dark" is represented by the Xiati.

Personally after doing a few scenarios I came to realize they aren't all that difficult to make. The only reason I never made more is because I couldn't think up any more good ideas.
