To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
Keywords: Gryphin > Forum > Thread > Naming >
Convention > Posting Keywords :: Warning, Gryphin has been thinking again :: In the Thread: "Foul Play" dumbluck posted: "I know there was a thread about "how do you beat the AS", but I can't find it now... " This made me start thinking. To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search: The poster of a given thread would put key words at the top of their first post. or When topic evolved into a different subject someone might / could either Edit or add a post with the appropriate Keywords. The first keyword might be the posters name Feed back? Ideas? Am I nuts? Would you do this? |

Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
I agree that consistancy would be difficult. We all use different terms and some of us only use Anacranyms and worse, some of us can't spill worth a dam.
Still I think it would help. I'm hoping enough posters will like the idea to help develop a Syntax / Convetion / Nomenclature. |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
I like the idea, it has potential, but since i'm comp illiterate in the "essance' workings, I'll leave that to the pros, but it would be nice to have an easier time locating older or past threads on topics, especially as more new members join the forum and have questions that have already been answered previously, (including questions from yours trully)
Gryphin, I wouldn't wory abut speling as that is a universal fact. Something like key words or even partial words might work. anyway my 2 cents worth just some ideas mac |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
Think about it.
Not in every post, just the first one or when the subject changes. It would make your contrigbution a lot easier to find and perhaps fewer repeats of the same question and answer. Worth a shot isn't it? At least worth discusising |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
Geoschmo, mac, GrowlTigga,
Thanks for the feeback. Anybody else? All I'm suggesting is put a few words at the top of your post now and then to make it easier for folks to find? |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
I honestly don't see how adding keywords will help, since most of the useful ones should already be somewhere in the post itself.

Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
When I start a new topic, I am usually very careful of the words I use to define the topic. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
If everyone would do the same, it would be quite easy to do a search as the "keywords" would be in the topic. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
capq, tbontob,
You are correct. Still, if the words were included it might help: Develop a "standard" nomenclature / naming convention Give people a better idea of what to search for in the future. I "think", (and I admit some doubt), that I would "home in" on the words at the top of the post and keep track of them in my mind. I hope I would "store" them either in a note pad or my mind in case I need them. this could be unrealistic but I am right sometimes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: To make it easier to find a topic / subject when we do a search:
Sounds good but I am too lazy to go searching for things, I just post a question and wait for one of you know-it-alls to respond, or just send my little Filippino man-servant off to find the answer
