Been a long time - a question

Hey all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I've enjoyed SEIV since it first appeared and especially the mods. But, it's been a while and I need some help.

First, I downloaded some star trek and star wars mods, but cannot remember how to install them properly. They do not come with readme's (at least that I can find in all the files).... could someone give me a newbie lesson in installation (the TDM is so convenient in installing itself). I now have SEIV Gold.

Also, someone once made me a minor mod that would take out all the non-planetary systems (nebulae, organic growth, black holes etc.) - would someone know of a mod that does this or be willing to make one? I find the games much better (with AI) when the computer doesn't have to take these into account.

Thx for everything!

Re: Been a long time - a question

If you're just adding shipsets:

1) Create a folder in Pictures/Races with the exact same name as the beginning of the ship .bmp names.

2) Unzip the shipset into that folder.

3) If the .zip includes any .emp files, move or copy them into the Empires folder.

4) If the .zip includes a .txt file of ship names, move/copy that into the Dsgnname folder.

If you're installing a full-blown mod with new or modded files:

1) Create a folder in the main Space Empires IV Gold folder named after the mod.

2) Create a Data folder in the mod folder, and copy the entire contents of the main Data folder into it. (This might not be necessary, depending on how the .zip was packed.)

3) Unzip the mod into its folder, with "use path names" and "overwrite existing files" turned on.

4) If you're using Matryx's Mod Picker (recommended) to run SE IV, the mod folder should have a Modinfo.txt file. If the .zip didn't include one, you need to make one. (My Samples folder has a Modinfo.txt template in it, but I don't remember how it got there.)

(Anybody who notices something I missed, pipe up; I wrote this from memory.)

If you have downloaded any of the NASY star trek ship sets, then read the CREDITS.txt file.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Get Fyron's Quadrant Mod, linked in my sig. It has some Paradise quadrant types, that have those removed. Only a few storm systems remain, for a little break in the uniformness.
