Mount Question
I know is sounds strange coming from me (the 'king' of massive mount modds http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif ). But, if I design a missile mount that reduces the range of the missile (I know I can't affect damage, and in truth range {can't add}) will it work?. Basicly I want to make a Short Ranged Missile that fires off at say 5 range, will it work (or will it fire off at the normal range of the seeker, and if it does work @ 5 range will this be the new range of the missile or will the missile fire off at 5 but still have the range of the initial seeker?).
Anyone? |

Re: Mount Question
Actually -- yes and no.
The range modifictionwill effect when the missile is fired -- but not the ACTUALK range (nor damage) of the missile. So you could make a mount like "Degraded Missile Target Acquisition", and cut the range down -- but the ACTUAL missile will still go the full distance, and do it's full damage (once the seeker is created, it refers to the UNMOUNTED launching component's entry ...). So you could take, say, a Plasma Missile % and make it not able to fire as soon (-10 range), but if it fires at range 8, and the target moves to range 14 ... the missile WILL follow all the way out, even if the SHIP indicates it's missiles won't do damage past range 8 or 9 ... |
Re: Mount Question
Perfect, thanx Pax. Thats actually what I was wondering about. Now as what to call the mount? Short Range Missiles (SRM) is kinda misleading (as the missile itself will still go full range), any suggestions?
I'm working on a new Version of the Mount Mod (going to 1.4), adding in a few mounts and taking out others all together (that and re-working the gatling mounts, too powerful before the discovery of Emissive Armor). That and I want to give more missile and Torpedo mounts (been reading waayy to much Weber again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ). Possible new mounts: Mini-Torpedo Mounts (both size and damage with different levels) Remote Miner Mounts (I want these things USED!, maybe reduce the cost of them and the size so you can have destroyer sized mining ships that are actually profitable!) Different Levels of T.A.G mounts (instead of the straight +100% to hit, lead on up to it in increments of 25 maybe....maybe). more PDC mounts (than just the religious ones). possibility of more Engine Mounts. and maybe, just maybe Mine Sweeper mounts, don't know about this one yet (could make mines even more useless than they are mid-game). any other suggestions? |
Re: Mount Question
How about: Proximity Missile Mount?

Sounds great! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Though I guess a ship full of Proximity Missiles would be called a 'Proximity Missile Ship', or P.M.S. for short http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: Mount Question
Actually, the mount that increases targeting range of missiles should be usefull for weapon platforms: as it is now, planet must wait till ships are in range and only then fire missiles. With new mount, planet will fire missiles in advance and when ships close on planet, they will be greated by swarms of missiles at the extreme range !

Re: Mount Question
Did you know...
If you add an entry for damage at range 21 to a seeker, it will never run out of range? The firing range is still limited to 20 (or 21), but the seeker will chase the ship until one of them dies. Makes for some fun planet-based missiles. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
