AI Team Game

So, having never used this option I'm curious. Does this mean the AI's will not attack each other? Or just mean they will attack the human players instead of any form of diplomacy. Do they act sort of like one giant empire? (like in MOO2 when the galactic vote went against you, or Mega Evil Empire status?).

If they don't attack one another does this mean I can have a PBW game with 20 races, 10 or 15 of them being copies of the same race (ie, 10 Borg or 10 Xi'Chung {read:Bug}) and have them vaguely represent one giant empire with many 'arms'.

Sorta trying to recreate the Weber/White 'In Death's Ground' series here.

Or does this not work at all? (heh, 2 questions in one day, feel like a newbie again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif )

Re: AI Team Game

The way I have seen this option working, is more like you start with the MEE setting already turned on.
The AI will still work according to their data files, but they know that their mission is to take out the human person.

Re: AI Team Game

I'm in a v1.49 PBW game with Team Mode turned on. The AIs tend to declare war on the human players on or shortly after First Contact. The AIs seemed to cooperate a lot, but I'm pretty sure there were some early conflicts, because I've found a few mined warp points on borders between two AIs' claimed systems. The human players tended to go straight to Partnerships, but that was partly because this particular game's victory condition is "all the AIs are dead". (A couple of us discovered that taking Bloodthirsty for happiness type was a Bad Idea in a team game.) Our game started with 8 humans and 8 AIs; IMO fewer humans and more AIs per human would have made a more interesting game.

Re: AI Team Game

Basically team mode works much like MEE. All the AI's instantly regard all the human players as MEE. This is done by subtracting the MEE penalty from the AI anger towards the player. The AI feeling towards other AI is modified in a positive manner as well. This can be overridden by other factors in the Anger file. Primarily close proximity and systems that are claimed by both sides. In effect what tends to happen is each AI is chummy with all the AI in the game, except it's immediate neighbors. It will fight them, and also and human players regardless of distance. Sometimes though the AI will cooperate with it's neighbors if it's already at war with enough human players simultaneously. That has an effect too.
