Bumper Car Mod

Just a stupid idea I had today...

Basically strip the tech tree down to zilch, except armor and things like it. Could even add some fancy named new things that add to the structural density of a ship.

Only way to destroy a ship is to ram it.

But there's also boarding parties. Take out the self destruct devices as well. So all a ship has is engines, standard LS, B & CQ, armor and either space marines or defending space marines. Maybe some armor regen, drones (can they ram?), supply and repair components. Dunno.

Small ships will be really fast and big ships will be slow.

Dunno. Haven't had an idea for this game in a while so I thought i'd throw this one out no matter what.

Was playing Decent Freespace 2 the other day on a whim and I decided to see if I could kill an enemy fighter by ramming it over and over. Needless to say, I couldn't, but it spawned this idea.

Another loony idea in a long line of amusement park mods, I guess.

I think it would be interesting and fun. But how would you ever win? You can't ram planets right? If that is the case then you would never wipe out planets. Unless you just start with like a few homeworlds (3) and then just used them to support your empire. But that would be tough to pull off since you'd be building alot of ships and be running your bank account into the ground. If there are ways around this, then it would be neat to see this go through.
Perhaps you could mod the home planets to all have monoliths and generate tons of resources per turn. Dunno, just some things to think about I guess.

Oh right...forgot to post that part.

All weapons are taken out except planetary napalm.

Don't want to be a spoiler, but wouldn't Organic have a very significant advantage with their armor? That already is a somewhat viable tactic for Organic races or has the recent patch changed that - I don't play organic much anymore...

You could use drones against planets if you want to glass them. But if you take out all the direct fire wepons then there is nothing to fear in just flying up and dropping troops on the planets. No weapons platforms.

No, I would take out org armor. Might replace it with a standard armor that does what it does, but is available to everyone.

I think I would make drones, but not drone launchers...so only planets can use them. They are their only source of defense.

The entire Mod is an interesting idea, Jmenschenfresser. And the drones as planet defence, would be along the lines of ICBM's. Yes?

How about leaving in the tractor/ repulsors? Could be fun, and a viable defence for planets.
