Look, 31 votes so far.

We can treat the data as a large sample and consider it representative of all SE:IV players - that sure is a lot of addicted people isn't it?

A long time ago I dl’d SE2. In a few days I was hooked. Registered it up and wore a bunch of mice out, and then I got right on the list for SE3, and spent far too many hours playing it. Now I’m a little burned out, so I haven’t play much until just recently.

I know what you mean about being burnt out. I played SE2 to death as that was the only good game I had at the time. But I never grew tired of it, the AI was always a fighter and tough to beat with it's 80 battle stations around each planet and warp-point. Then I pre-ordered SEIV and played it alot. I wasn't playing for about 2 months because the AI just wasn't a challange. So I got into PBW and now I can't get enough of SEIV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I think it is a matter of perception. I'm sure my sweetheart would answer for me in a very differeant way. (and my x, there is not enough of a scale for her vote)

only problem with treating as a generalaztion is that this survey is by its nature taken only by ppl already somewhat addicted. I'd disregard the first 20 answers at least. Anyone who visits this site more than once a day (like me except when i take my monthly break) is already an addict if they have to come her multiple times a day because there arn't enough PBW games with turns due.

Re: Rank your Addiction

In all the time that I have been playing SEIV I can honestly say that I have been burned out many times.

I go off to play another game, or bag game playing for while. But one thing is for certain, I always come back because this game simply has more depth, replayability, community, and sense of adventure than any other game, say for Tribes I and II, that I have ever played.

I seldom play Tribes any more, and can only say that I truly honestly and completely miss what I had with those games on a scale and depth that I could never put into words. You simply understand it or you do not.

I feel about SEIV simularly, but with some reservations. I absolutely loved Tribes (I) beyond comprehension. (Sad but true) It was the game that drove me for a very long time. But thats gone now, and even though Tribes 2 had a lot of common points, it too is fading from my scope.

SEIV has not faded from my scope, it is still there mainly because of this community, and the people here.

I find that I now spend more time off line in one day than I do on line over a month. Eventually, such is life, I will have moved onto the next great thing. But I will always consider SEIV to have been a high point in my gaming experience.

As time passes, ones dedication, not addiction, to a game will naturally fade. That is why we have sequals. And with each sequal, most fans hold something back for fear of loosing what they had before. I have seen it first hand over many differant games, and forums.

But by far this has been the most dedicated group of players of any single game I have ever witnessed, and I hope that this community continues on as strong as it is now for as long as Aaron is willing to continue the Space Empires saga.

Re: Rank your Addiction

It is probably related to my ADD (which generaly includes an addictive personalty).
I find I play 15 to 20 hours a week for 3 weeks. I can do this without impacting my relationship with my sweetheart because she works retail and is away at least that much time when I am home. Retail Sucks, but then... Then I Take about a week off to work on a computer mod or something.
