Mod suggestion:

Hey folks,

I've been away from SE4 for a while and missed a lot of the modding goodness that has been going on. Checking through the modding forum is somewhat confusing so I figured I'd just ask:

Does anyone have any suggestion for which mod to play for someone who just wants a pretty good game vs the AI with all the gizmos and gadjets? The default tech set always leaves me with a very bland feeling and it still doesnt seem overly balanced to me. I enjoyed the Devnullmod from time gone by and am looking for something similar. I'd prefer nothing overly radical like Proportions as I dont want to spend the better part of 10 years getting the game going. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Basically, I'm just looking for a finished mod that I can play with for a while to get my 'space fix'.

Thanx,

Talenn

good lord, a forum old-timer returns!

there is a new Version of Devnull that is pretty sweet. It has spacemonsters and whatnot. Pirates and Nomads is good, but there is some ammount of learning curve to it.

both provide good games against the AI. spacemonsters are very tough to beat, and pirates and nomads allows you to play without building colonies of your own: surviving by capturing and analyzing ships (tactical combat is handy here) and other piratical whatnot.

Actually for single player games Proportions can go faster than regular games really. It might take more turns than you are used to, but it will probably take less time. Fewer colonies means less micromanagment. It takes a while to populate colonies, but you can automate that with repeat orders to your transports.

Hey guys,

Good to see that some of the old timers are still here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Thanx for the suggestions. Do you (or anyone else) have a direct link to the latest Devnull mod? The latest I could find in the mod forum was for Version 1.70. Now is that for SE4 1.70 or it is a 1.70 of Devnull?

Also, what is the latest Version of Proportions and is it available anywhere directly?

Thanx again.
