What is considered to be cheating?
I think it should be clearly written somewhere what are all the Gentelmen Agreements valid at the moment. New players can be considered cheating because they didn't know anything about long-ago made Gentelmen Agreements.

Re: What is considered to be cheating?
I assume you are talking about PBW games here? Basically it boils down to the game owner. we recommend the game owner clearly set these theings down prior to the game beginning, and that he or she makes all replacment players aware of them when they join. Not doing this is asking for trouble. Ultimatley you have the right to vote with your feet if you don't like the way the game owner handles something. Hopefully it never get to that point though. It is supposed to be fun after all.
The only time that the PBW admins step into the fray over cheating issues would be some sort of manipulation of data files or other kinds of game hacking. Most of that stuff has been patched out, although like any game I am sure there are still opportunities for those of sufficent ability and determination. But any sort of game exploit, doing somthing the game allows which is frowned upon publicly, is the responsibility of the game owner to restrict and enforce. Geoschmo PBW Admins |

I put a very simple definition of cheating in SE4 here: Click here:
If anyone has encountered other examples, they can edit that page. I plan soon to add a page to the Encyclopedia Malfadorica - click here called PBW ethics. I hope lot's of people will stop by and edit it. I could mention a whole bunch -- some of them I did myself [ December 27, 2002, 19:24: Message edited by: Arkcon ] |
