Games We Cherish

Now it is getting to the end of the year and I have cleaned up my computer hard drive. I cleaned up my computer drawer and found ... hell...about 70 games stored away from X-Com to Harpoon to Ascendancy to Might-and-Magic to Civilization III. And of course SE (III and now IV) always gets installed first.

What games do you install on your computer that you cherish? After all the years and dozens of games we probably all have (some we regret getting), those few games that we cannot live without having on our computer.

Hi,
X-com TFTD is still a great game but XP doesn't
like it much. I have to have a dual boot system
to play it. Warlords 3 is another classic and
now that Doomsday has produced an incredible
conVersion (runs under XP and with 3D Models) I'm
playing Doom, Doom 2 and Heretic again.

I only have SEIV on my system.

Harpoon? Cool, I loved both the paper and the Computer Version. Did you know the designer and his crew were "intensly interviewed" by certain govenmental officials as to where they got their data for the game. (some of it came from the Russians).

I used to have MoM on my computer. Now it is replaced by AoW/AoW2
Slightly OT, but I like original AoW more than the sequel.

I don't think I've uninstalled any of my PC games....except for Tribes, and that's because I replaced it with Tribes 2.

However, I still haven't finished the game Tachyon, and I enjoyed it. Partly because I'm a Bruce Campbell fan(he does the voice for the main character), and he's got a persona/presence that is just too funny. I hope to get back into that game and even complete the adventure, at least once. Never mind all the major decision points in the game where the story diverges. While the game is a 1st person pilot shoot-em up, there are adventures that stray at least a little ways off of that.

Oh, so you like roguelikes too? Why don't you try Ancient Domains of Mystery (www.adom.de)? Only trouble with those games is trying to play them on a laptop, you have to set the diagonal movement controls to weird things like pageup or F9 because there's no number pad http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I remember Ascendency. Great concept, but pretty lousy execution. The 3D systems were really neat, but the bugs and horrible AI killed a promising game. It even had good music.

Empire Deluxe! I still dust that off on occasion when it's time for mindless conquering.

Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate is a great game if you are interested in the 40K miniatures game (which I am).

Diablo II still lingers, also. Just can't quite bring myself to delete all those characters...
