Re: Some Advice...
Well, each stock race has a story. So, if you want to role-play you have somewhere to start from. A fun thing to start with is play the organic or crystalline race -- and only use the racial weapons and armor. No organic armor + stealth armor. No crystalline armor with anti-proton beams. It's actually pretty challenging. Those weapons and armor are weaker than standard late game technology.

Re: Some Advice...
An idea for you would be to make a small mod if you were to do a single player game, though it would have to be acceptable + incorporated into a PBW game... You could make a small racial tech tree for your race with additional fighter sizes / comps. Another option would be to fit your play style to the race. It could work in small-med games where the end of the tech tree is never in sight. Just be quick and cunning enough to hit the oppostion before PDCs are too dangerous. Also, alliances could be used to bolster your fighter heavy race in an RP multiplayer game.

Re: Some Advice...
Interesting...so only use technology, that would make sense in using it...ok...so i want to make fighter heavy...army with a few heavy ships...anyway to mod fighters? since from what i see they do not get any exp http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif ..but when their carriers get exp...does it effect the fighters?

Your fighters can benefit from experience. They inherit the experience of the carrier that launched them. At least, thats what everybody says, I never tested that. The carrier can gain experience in orbit around a planet with a training facility. |
Re: Some Advice...
For roleplaying purposes, anything you want the race to be like is "good", regardless of whether it's beneficial in game terms.
I play a lot of tough and resilient races, so I often boost Physical Strength and Environmental Tolerance, neither of which are very popular for competitive play. An extreme example is my Eifralo, who not only boost those two traits, but have a cultural bias towards overbuilding and overspending, so they have reduced Construction Aptitude, Repair Aptitude, and Maintenance Reduction. |
