different components based on ship size.
i know there has been talk of using mounts to increase size of components instead of adding multiple components on larger ships. how about adding a field for minimum and maximum ship size to the components like there is for mimimum size in the mounts. you could still have the mounts but this way larger ships automatically have the larger components.
also how about making so you can add the special abilities (shield skipping, armor skipping, etc) to weapons and each additional ability increases size and cost. similiar to MOO2. maybe as a future patch? |

The second suggestion could not be added in a later patch. It would require a fundamental rewriting of the code for weapons and mounts, and so would be too much work for a patch. It would be a great thing to be in SE5 though! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Note that when you use a set of mounts set up with minimum and maximum ship sizes, the AI already functions this way for the applicable components. AI races (and ministers) always use the available mount found farthest down in the ComponentEnhancement.txt file.
