Idea for SEV
I came up with an idea for SEV yesterday when I was driving home. It has to do with Troops.
I would have posted this in the thread that has to do with patch ideas but I don't think this would be able to be implemented into a patch. It would most likely take alot of hard code changes for it to work. But here it goes... In the current Version of SEIV when you want to defend a planet you build troops. That is all fine and dandy but I think it could be improved. Think of it this way; right now you build troops to defend your planet and/or take planets from ememies. Since when do you build a person? (Besides cloning, or a robot) That doesn't make too much sense to me. I mean it works great in the game. But again, I feel it coule be improved upon. Here is my idea I came up with; instead of building your troops, why not train them? I think you would have to take out the troop unit to do this though. It would be pretty hard to implement but it would be really cool to see it done. Ok, when you colonize a planet you have usually 4M or more right away of population. Now say you want to add some troops to it. So instead of designing a troop unit and adding it to the que. You train the troop or infantry, on the planet surface out of the planets population. MM would have to make a window you could pull up from the planet details list that would let you decide how many troops or infantry to train. Say you have 8M people on the planet, and you want to train 4000 (four thousand) people to defend the planet (maybe make that number be the same as say 40 troops are now) Then you could select which level of training they would recieve. Up to say for example 3 levels. But the higher the level the most it costs to train them and the more time it takes to finish training them. After all they have to go through more detailed training and you would have to feed them longer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Then when you want to take some infantry to overtake a enemy planet you would load that population that has been trained onto a ship and then drop them on the target planet. If you have better trained people or purely out number the enemy planets infantry, then you would win the battle and take control of the planet. I think this would be really awesome to see and thought I would share it with you all. Are there any ideas or suggestions in how MM could make this system work better then what I have suggested? Feedback is most wanted. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Idea for SEV
I like the idea of training a military from the population.
One fact about SE:IV, is that "troops" are not supposed to represent people, but actually vehicles like tanks, etc. |

Maybe for every 1000 (or whatever number) of population you train that will represent 1 infantry group. (Or troop) |
Re: Idea for SEV
You already get infantry, in the form of Militia that defend the planet when attacked. Of course, you can't design them, but so what? Troop combat is insanely simple, and uses only hit points, damage, and I think to hit chances. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Idea for SEV
fyron, but militia are untrained/undisciplined infantry. There should be away to make those militia trainable. If not then make them in addition to the militia added by the game. Like a pre-Infantry. At least one would think!

Re: Idea for SEV
How about have a population support only a limited number of troops. If you want more, you have to start a draft. This could result in consequences such as protests and rioting by the population. I can just picture a message window with a picture of some aliens carrying peace signs...."Stop the war in AlphaIraq IV"!!

Fyron, sure ground combat is insanly simple as it is. That's why I think it should be updated a little bit. |
