Question about conquering the planet

I searched in the newbie FAQ and forums but I didn't find an answer to this.

My ally, Space Wolves Clan, are attacking against our common enemy. One of the planets has this text: "Forces of the Space Wolves Clan are attempting to conquer the planet. The planet is also blockaded." The text has been there many turns, at least 5. So what this means, is there my ally's troops on the planet? My ships and troop transports only move to the corner in combat.

Re: Question about conquering the planet

It means that there is a continuing ground combat in session. If there are so many units on each side that the combat can't finish in the 10 rounds, it is suspended and continued on following turns until it is resolved. Only 2 different empires can be in ground combat at 1 time so that's why your troop transports are not participating. The "blockaded" occurs when a planet has enemy ships in orbit and this means that resources produced on the blockaded planet are not sent to the empire's common pool during this time.

Another unshown effect is that the troops, combat and ships are making the planet's population VERY unhappy.

Slick.

Thanks. They both must have lots of troops/militia because the ground combat has Last so many turns. Is there anything I can do but wait?

send in the point-blank bombers and use tactical mode? or would that kill the ally's troops and "save the whales".

Drop more troops from more transports. Each drop of troops causes a new round of ground combat in the turn, and all of your troops on the planet will fight together, increasing the damage you do.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Gift the transports to your ally so he can drop the troops as reinforcments to his own attack force, thus crushing the enemy.

Be sure to arrange how the spoils of war will be divvied up before you do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Slick.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Don't forget that some mods reduce the number of ground combat rounds per turn from 10 to 2 (P&N and Proportions, IIRC). That has the effect of making it more likely for ground combat to Last multiple turns...
