What is Star Fury?

I checked out the MM site and saw a link to SE: Star Fury. Was is it and how is like/dislike SEIV. The description made it sound like the next level of SE.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'll try to explain some of it. First of all check out the interview that David had with Aaron, it's in a thread somewhere around here. That will explain some of it.

It is dislike SEIV in that you only control one ship. It has been likened to a Privateer type game. It will have 3D rendered ships in a 3D universe if I'm not mistaken. You can only pilot one ship at a time, and you will have missions to complete. You can play as a pirate, criminal and there's another one but I forget it off hand. You can get money by completing missions and by being a criminal. You can then use this money to buy a better ship and upgrade it and so forth. You can own multiple ships but can only fly one at a time. You have to rent hanger space at a base in order to store you other ships and equiment. You can control completely what components are on your ship.

If any of this is wrong, someone correct me.

Hope that helps you out some. I did the best I could in explaining some of it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I would not call it the 'next level' of SE, more of SE on a different scale. A chance to command a ship in a SE universe. SE:V will be the next level for SE:IV.

I don't remember where i read it, but a while back...somewhere between se4 but before gold, i saw a thread on a forum where fans were dreaming about the future of space empires. one of the best ideas was for an open ended rpg where you command a vessel in the SE universe. you could do anything from free trade to enlisting with an empire to pirating. I thought that would be great. now it looks like its coming. I think it could open up the community to new gamers who have avoided the genius that is Se because they dont like the game style. Ill admit, i hate turn based strategy for the most part, but then i found this and love it. I'm also hoping it is as mod friendly as the other games to keep things fresh and exciting. I for one cant wait to order this one.

WOW! I've been away for a while from the SE community and it looks like Aaron has been busy with already a new game! I think the RPG element of the game looks interesting, but I sure hope the game has a simple Skrimage mode so that I can pit one races fleet against another races fleet. From what the site says, it looks like only a perspective of a Merchant or Pirate. That is neat, but it would be nice if we can pit different races ships and organized them into fleets and pit them against other people with fleets of ships. Kinda like that old Sci Fi game called "Star Fire" where you would pit custom made ships against other custome made ships. If this Star Fury game allows a Skirmish mode, I can easily see many people here making mods of this game just like SE4.

I wonder if the game will have Multiplayer support? Or is it strictly single player game?

From what I can gather, it looks kind of like Elite in the SE universe. Except without the trading.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I agree with you dogscoff. But I am 99% sure there will be trading.

from MM site:Freeform structure: Follow the given missions, or perform your own as a merchant, mercenary, or pirate.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I don't see how you are going to a merchant without trade. Or be a pirate without stealing goods and have a place to sell them.
Gosh, I sure hope that Starfury is going to be as modable as I imagine it. I can already see a mod to explore the O&C universe, trade 20 different kinds of beer and mead, and get into a dogfight against some Vikings http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .

Aaron said Multiplayer support will be added if time permits. If he cannot have it done in time for when he is planning on releasing the game (sometime this summer) then it won't be added right away.

Re: What is Star Fury?

From the screen shots I have seen of StarFury, I wonder if Firing Arcs are calculated for weapons or will it be pretty much the same as the old SE4?

Also, is this still going to be turn based tactical combat or a Real time game play? Also, anyone know if this game will use turn modes and such for ships or will be be limited to ships able to maneuever with no restrictions?
