Re: New Starfury Interview
"Fleets can't have hundreds of ships, they can only have a handful.."
And he wants to use this for Se5? Let's hope he refines the engine some first! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Phoenix-D |
Re: New Starfury Interview
Maybe SE5 combat will be like MOO3 combat... lots of ships, but only a handful of controllable units (Task Forces)?

I want to be a beta tester.

That is no good. Then on starfleet command2, it was a worthless pile of garbage. All ships were handled in 2D from a 3D point of view. Which means you can navigate north, south, east and west but you cannot move on the Y axe. It gave me a strange feeling of space battle in a bath tube. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif I just hope starfury will be better (not hard) and that SE5 will be a bLast (??????) |
Re: New Starfury Interview
I guess the whole real-time nonsense has already been decided for SEV. That's very sad. I guess now I have to say that Space Empires WAS the Last dynasty of turn-based strategy games. I wonder if there will ever be another?

Some of the graphics will be rendered in real time, which I guess is something totally different. It concerned me at first but I have been assured it's not the same as a real time game. Also elements of the combat engine may be real time. It's not really clear what exactly that means, or even if it's a sure thing that it will happen for SEV. I suppose it's possible the game could be a turn based game that goes real time to resolve tactical combat. If you are a heavy solo player that that likes to play tactical combat in turn based that might be a disapointment. I play mainly simultaneous games with only strategic combat so I don't think I will see much diffence in that area. Geoschmo [ February 03, 2003, 16:26: Message edited by: geoschmo ] |
Re: New Starfury Interview
Real time strategy on the scope of SEIV would be well nigh impossible with the number of ships and planets you have to manage (unless you get AI generals and governors...)

MP gaming as funny as it is sometimes is much overvalued.
It would be a big loss to the TB genre if the SEV tactical engine is real time. I am not quite sure if it is worth to buy it then (similar to MOO3). Maybe somebody of MM or Shrapnel should make clear, if SEV has real time elements or not. KlausD [ February 04, 2003, 00:12: Message edited by: klausD ] |
