Human controlled neutral empires
I am trying to add another player to a SE4 Gold 1.84 by having him take over a neutral. We have made all the changes to make in human controlled and turn off AI, but he tells me he cannot move a colony ship out of his home system. Is this a fluke or is the limitation of neutrals to their home system Hard Coded, or just built into the AI scripts?
Ok, It IS hard coded. Darn. I found my answer here: http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...=007344#000001 [ February 08, 2003, 16:19: Message edited by: stecal ] |

What about neutral drones? Can they warp to attack distant planets/ships?

Re: Human controlled neutral empires
I've seen neutrals move ships out of their home system, but only after their home system has taken heavy damage or their homeworld has been terminated. I don't know if it's a bug or what. I do know that those lone ships never make it that far http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Human controlled neutral empires
Are you sure about the drones?
The Neutral_AI_Settings.txt file has these 2 lines that seem to indicate that drones can warp: Maximum Anti-Ship Drone Target System Distance := 5 Maximum Anti-Planet Drone Target System Distance := 5 |
Re: Human controlled neutral empires
I'm not sure, but I think all <raceName>_AI_Settings.txt files have to include those lines, regardless of whether the race even uses drones.

Re: Human controlled neutral empires
This might be change to request for the next Version of Space Empires then.
When a (neutral) player is changed from computer Ai to human player the warp limitations are removed. Or have it moved to a yes/no switch in settings.txt I like to include 1-3 neutral or AI empires in any game I am running to provide for new players or replacement empire for a player who gets knocked out early. This would be a great tool for that. |
